The Kmart proposal was denied. However, the same company is proposing a project at the north entrance in Bear Creek Township at the old Humane Society property next to Oleson’s. While they stood there last night and told the board that they are a “green company” and repurposing the old Kmart would prevent hurting our environment by not filling our landfills by tearing down the building. A while they are proposing to build over 100,000 ft.² of storage facility and distribution center, Destroy our wetlands and pave over a stream in Bear Creek Township. Currently, they are in the process of obtaining an EGLE permit with the state of Michigan and it is in the public review process. If anyone would like to make a comment, there is FIVE days left to do so." Our petition gathered 134 signatures (due to short notice, 2 week period), and not one signer expressed support. Likewise, at last night’s meeting regarding the Kmart proposal, no one spoke in favor of the project or submitted written support to the City. There were a couple face-book posts and polls that have been circulating online the last few days in regards to KMart project. From what I gathered the majority opposed siting housing needs, excessive amount of storage in our area and they would like to see something that would be a better use to our community."
